The iWays project focuses on increasing water efficiency through three main solutions: exhaust gas condensation, water treatment and waste recovery.
The technical management of iWAYS will be carried out by Prof. Hussam Jouhara.iWAYS, funded under the European Union's H2020 programme, has a duration of four years. The project focuses on increasing water efficiency through three main solutions: condensation of exhaust gases, water treatment and waste valorisation. It will also consider alternative sources of fresh water - such as surface run-off - to meet sustainable water supply targets and will develop robust technologies to reduce brine volumes and to recycle water used in production processes back into the manufacturing process.
iWAYS aims, among other objectives, to develop a set of technologies to recover water and energy from exhaust gases in industrial processes, to meet water quality requirements and to reduce primary energy consumption. It is also expected to reduce fresh water consumption by 30-64%; and to recover water and heat from wet gases by 30%.
